The Rugby League world is set for a Viking Invasion from the North.

Rugby League Norge are proud to announce that they have made so much progress in the Rugby League world in such a short space of time that they have been invited by the RLEF to compete for The European Bowl in 2010 against Malta. In light of hearing the great news the Norwegian National Team went about trying to establish themselves as a serious contender for the bowl, and they have given themselves the deserved title “Vikingene Rugby League”. RLN CEO Warren Heilig said “ As soon as the boys heard they were heading to Malta they really got excited and wanted to be as professional as possible so I asked them what nickname they would like to be known as, and naturally they wanted the world to know how proud they are of their tough ancestry so they chose the name Vikingene Rugby League which in english means The Vikings of Rugby League. I am glad they chose that name as it best describes these boys”. The captain of Vikingene Fredrik Skovly added “ I think our great great grandfathers would have loved the game of Rugby League. What is not to love about this sport? I am pretty sure they would be very proud to see their spirit is still alive today”. Only time will tell how these new Viking warriors fare in the Rugby League world but one cannot help but think that these Vikings will be more than welcome visitors to the countries they invade in the future.

Rugby League expands its reach.

The sport of Rugby League is growing substantially throughout the world, and here in Scandinavia the trend is no different. Rugby League Norge are proud to announce two brand new Rugby League Clubs that have been formed in Norway. The two clubs are in Oslo and Lillestrøm respectively. The new Oslo Club known as “The Oslo City Seagulls” are a sister club to the Australian professional Rugby League Club “The Wynnum Manly Seagulls” who have donated a kit for the club to start with while they have their very own kit being made and shipped to Norway. RLN CEO Warren Heilig and former Wynnum Manly Seagulls player said “I grew up in Australia, in Wynnum actually so it was always going to be natural for me to want to bring a bit of my home to my new found home”. He added “I asked Wynnum Manly CEO “Mark Rocklea” if he could help us out up here and he was great and managed to get the guys some jerseys to start off with. I love the kit as it brings back old memories for myself, plus anybody who has been to Oslo knows that Seagulls in the city actually outnumber citizens here, so it's a perfect fit really”.

The new Lillestrøm Rugy League Club known as “The Lillestrøm Lions” were the first ever Rugby League Club in Scandinavia and they are hellbent on becoming a succesful club at that. Warren Heilig had this to say about The Lions “ Mate the club have a great backroom staff and a good blend of very experienced players from Australia and New Zealand and some exciting new talents. I think the club will definitely give the crowds some great Rugby viewing this year”. Stay tuned as we review the clubs as they go head to head in the first match of the 2010 season.
